Abstract

It is a very well-known fact that in the athletic events that are based on speed, the athletic high performance is often dependent on and conditioned by the reaction time (the processing speed of the nervous impulse's importance). The previous researches in the field of high performance sports have emphasized the importance the track and field specialists give to the education of the start reaction, an importance that is justified by the "limit" reached today in obtaining high performances, especially during sprint events.  This paper aims to do an analysis of the start reaction times recorded by athletes who won medals for sprint events (ranked in the first three places), during the Romanian National Track and Field/Athletics Championships. The subjects of this research were professional athletes who, according to the Romanian Athletics Federation, belonged to 5 age categories (juniors III, II, I, youth, and seniors).
