Abstract

The determination of the body mass index (BMI) represents the standard evaluation of obesity in case of the adults, and the use of this index among children, although the efficiency is limited, is the standard reference for identification of the weight excess in this case. Therefore, any child that the body mass index falls between 25 and 30 against age and gender, must be seen by the specialist as to avoid the side effects of obesity. The purpose of the research was to conduct an ascertainment study about the body mass index of the children aged between 7 and 10. Following the results obtained, it may safely be said that by detecting the incidence of the children who may have weight imbalances against the age and by implementing specific intervention programs that are well structured, organized and regularly applied, a decrease of the body weight may be obtained with children showing imbalances from this point of view.
